7. The Ten Bhūmis

atra daśabhūmiko kartavyo dīpaṃkaravastu ca ||

nāmo ’stu buddhānāṃ namo ’rhatāṃ ||

daśa­bhūmi­kasyādi

vatte apratima dharmadarśanaṃ
na ekakalpaśatasaṃcitātmanāṃ |
bhūmayo daśa jināna śrīmatāṃ
yair vikurviṣu sadā paṇḍitā ||

māna­darpamadamohamocitā
sarvaśaḥ samiyamārdavānvitā |
gauravaṃ janiya sarvadarśiṣu
śrūyatāṃ jinavarasya śāsanaṃ ||

nirvṛte kanakarāśīsannibhe
śākyanandijanane tathāgate |
kaṃpi medini saśailakānanā
sāgarāṃbaradharā saparvatā ||

kampitaṃ paramaromaharṣaṇaṃ
bhūmikaṃpam anudṛśya dāruṇaṃ |
kāśyapo dhūtaguṇāgrapārago
cittam abhyupagataḥ tadā abhūt* ||

kiṃ nu adya dharaṇī saparvatā
sāgarāmbaradharā vasundharā |
kampate paramadāruṇasvaraṃ
nūnaṃ nirvṛtiṃ gataḥ tathāgataḥ ||

so ca divyanayanas tathāgataṃ
devakinnaravarehi vanditaṃ
dṛśya sarvabhavabandhanāntakaṃ
nirvṛtaṃ yamakaśāla-antare ||

na khalu me samucitaṃ tathāgataṃ
ṛddhiye samanugantu gautamaṃ |
padbhir eva vadatāṃ varaṃ muniṃ
draṣṭum apratimaṃ pravrajāmy ahaṃ ||

so ca matva tvaramāṇo sūrī
kāśyapo mathitamānaso bhikṣuḥ |
bhikṣubhiḥ bahubhiḥ uttamo pari-
nirvṛtabhuvam anupūrvam āgami ||

tasya ca praṇidhir āsi uttamā
kāśyapasya jinapādavandane |
tau + + + caraṇau mahāmune
mūrdhinā upanipīḍya vandituṃ ||

saṃgṛhyolkāṃ vipulāṃ atha catasro
mallakā upagatā balavantaḥ |
vījitāṃ paramamallavinītāṃ
dagdhaḍalkāṃ abhiprāṇamayensuḥ ||

taiś citām abhimukhaṃ upanītā
taiḥ parākramabalai rathaśūraiḥ |
nirvṛtā ca + + + sā samakālaṃ
prāpya vāripariṣekam ivolkā ||

saṃśayaṃ vimatimadhyam upetya
mallā divyanayanaṃ aniruddhaṃ |
gauravā nataśirā suvinītā
praśnam* + + + idaṃ paripṛcche ||

ko nu hetur iha pratyayo ca ko
yen’ imā jinasutā upanītā |
nirvṛtiṃ upagatā sahasolkā
brūhi kāraṇam ihārya yathāvat* ||

devatā khalu prasannā kāśyape
tasya eṣa khalu ṛddhibhāvanā |
naiva tāva jvalano jvaliṣyati
yāva nāgato agrapāragaḥ ||

tasya caiṣa praṇidhiḥ samṛdhyati
kāśyapasya dhutadharmadhāriṇaḥ |
tau kramau daśabalasya śrīmataḥ
vandituṃ hi śirasā mahāmune ||

so ca bhikṣu­gaṇa­saṃ­puras­kṛtaḥ
kāśyapo dhutarajo jinātmajaḥ |
prāṃjalī jinacitām upāgato
gauravā praṇataśīrṣamānasaḥ ||

dṛśya taṃ pravararūpadhāriṇaṃ
kāṣṭhasaṃcayagataṃ tathāgataṃ |
dhig bhavān iti girām udīrayī
darśitaprakṛti­bhāva­lakṣaṇāṃ ||

ko nu so bhavam upetya prāṇako
yo na mṛtyuvaśam āgamiṣyati |
yatr’ ayaṃ jvalanakāṃcanopamo
nirvṛto śikhir ivendhanaṃ vinā ||

kṛtva aṃjalipuṭaṃ mahāyaśo
pādato jinavarasya kāśyapo |
mūrdhinā nipatito maharṣiṇo
paścimaṃ idaṃ namasyate mune ||

tau ca cakravaralakṣitau kramau
devadānavavarehi vanditau |
niḥsṛtau tatha vidārya tāṃ citāṃ
deva­yakṣabhujagānubhāvitau ||

tau kramau śirasi sannipātiya
pāṇibhiḥ samanugṛhya cā mune |
ālape śrutidharaṃ maharṣiṇaṃ
antikāvacaraḥ kāśyapas tadā ||

kiṃ tv imau śrutidhara kramau mune
dhyāmatām upagatau na suprabhau |
brūhi kāraṇam aśeṣam āhvaya
yen’ imau na nayanābhinandinau ||

etaṃ śrutva śrutasaṃcayaṃdharo
kāśyapaṃ idam uvāca paṇḍito |
aśruvegaduṣitā va śocatāṃ
roditehi mathitā h’ imau kramau ||

ten’ imau kramavarau mahāmuneḥ
rodanena janatābhipīḍitau |
no vibhānti munino yathā purā
evam etad anupaśya suvrata ||

so nipatya śirasā punaḥ punaḥ
tau kramau pravaracakralakṣaṇau |
karatalehi abhipīḍayet mune
śāstu gauravaparāya buddhiye ||

vanditau ca dhutadharmadhāriṇā
tau kramau guṇadhareṇa śāstuno |
lokanāthacitakāṣṭha tejasā
vāyuvegavidhutena dīpyati ||

dahyamāne jinacandraśarīre
paṃca tāni vaśibhūtaśatāni |
mantrayanti sahitā samupetya
nirvṛtīsamayakāle saṃgītiṃ ||

nirvṛto pravaralakṣaṇadhārī
yo nu śāstu sasurāsuranetā |
ko guṇo iha ciraṃ parivāse
vayam api adya vijahāmatha dehaṃ ||

sarvathā supariniṣṭhitakāryāḥ
prāpya acyutam aśokam anantaṃ |
sarvabhāvabhavavītigatā sma
eṣa nirvṛtim upema ihaiva ||

evam ukte dhutadharmaviśuddho
kāśyapo ’bravi tadā vaśibhūtāṃ |
na khu bhavadbhiḥ anupādi vimukti
nirvṛtī samanugamya ihaiva ||

tīrthikā ca bahidhānugatāś ca
kreyur apratimaśāsanadoṣaṃ |
dhūmakālikam iti śramaṇasya
etat eva ca tu rakṣaṇīyaṃ no ||

lokanātha bahavo narasiṃhā
ye c’ anāgata mahāmatiśūrā |
te hi no upapadeyur udagrā
yadi na saṃkaliye śāsanaṃ śāstuḥ ||

tena apratihatāḥ susamagrāḥ
gāyathā sugataśāsanam agryaṃ |
yathā idaṃ suparigīta yathārthaṃ
cirataraṃ naramarūṣu viroce ||

evam astu iti te vaśibhūtā
kāśyapasya vacanaṃ pratipūjya |
cittam apy upagatā kva idānīṃ
deśi dharmadharasaṃgaṇanā syāt* ||

ramyakānanavane susamṛddhe
māgadhasya magadhādhipatisya |
puravare bhavatu rājagṛhasmiṃ
saptaparṇa­abhidhānaguhāyāṃ ||

parvatasya vaihāyavarasya
uttarasmi tīre varapārśve |
vividhapādape śilātalabhūmeḥ
bhāge yaṃ bhavatu dharmasamāsyā ||

te ca ṛddhivaśi­bhāva­balas­thā
udgatāḥ khagapathe jinaputrā |
tatkṣaṇāntara + + + prapalānā
mānasaṃ saro yathā haṃsayūtho ||

te pratiṣṭhitā nagāgravarasya
pārśve tat vanam upetya niṣaṇṇā |
śāsane ca sugatasya sugīte
devadundubhigaṇāni nadensuḥ ||

te ca dundubhina nādaṃ nadantaṃ
śrutva śāsanakarā sugatasya |
bhūmikampam anudṛśya ca ghoraṃ
kāśyapaṃ dhutarajaṃ idam ūcuḥ ||

kin tu bhoḥ dhutadharā samakaṃpi
medinī sasaritā sasamudrā |
devadundubhiravāś ca manojñā
divyamālyavikiraṇaṃ ca bhavanti ||

tān uvāca dhutadharmasamaṃgī
kāśyapo jinasutāṃ vaśibhūtāṃ |
ete sannipatitā marusaṃghā
śrutva śāsanavaraṃ susamagryaṃ ||

te samagravaralakṣaṇadhārī
gauravāt pramuditā marusaṃghāḥ |
pūjāṃ apratimakasya karonti
śāsanaṃ śṛṇuyu sarvasamagryaṃ ||

so hi ’nekabhavakalpaśatehi
hitasukhāya naradevagaṇānāṃ |
evam abhyupagato cirarātraṃ
mokṣayiṣye ’haṃ prajāḥ parimuktaḥ ||

so labhitva paramārtham aśokaṃ
sarva­bhāva­bhava­duḥkha­nirodhaṃ |
kāśipuryāṃ naradevahitārthaṃ
vartayiṣyi varacakram adbhutaṃ ||

paṃcakehi saha tehi munīhi
marugaṇāṃ vinayavādināṃ varo |
satvakoṭinayutāni nāyako
jātijanmamaraṇāt samuddhare ||

so vimokṣayi bhavābhinandino
toṣayaṃ naramarū narasiṃho |
mathiya sarvaparavādi sāṃprataṃ
nirvṛto tu bhagavāṃ nirapekṣo ||

eta śrutva vacanaṃ manoramaṃ
kāśyapasya dhutadharmadhāriṇo |
devasaṃghā muditā nabhe sthitā
vyāharanti vacanaṃ manoramaṃ ||

sādhu sādhu dhutadharmakovidā
śāstu śāsanakarā ananyathā |
bhāṣase guṇam anantabuddhino
jetavane naramarū sutoṣitā ||

so hi devamanujāna uttamo
so hi agrapuruṣo mahāmuniḥ |
so hi niḥśaraṇam uttamaṃ prabhuḥ
dṛṣṭadarśano hitāya prāṇināṃ ||

tena skandhā taḍibudbudopamā
phenapiṇḍakam iva prabhāsvaraṃ |
deśitā daśabalena jānatā
yasy’ iyaṃ guṇakathā pravartate ||

kṛṣṇasarpaśirasannibhās tathā
kāma agrapuruṣeṇa deśitā |
śastrarucchaviṣakumbhasannibhā
yasy’ iyaṃ guṇakathā pravartate ||

tena dṛṣṭam acalaṃ paraṃ sukhaṃ
dṛṣṭibhiḥ paramasādhudṛṣṭibhiḥ |
taṃ amatsaravatā prakāśitaṃ
saṃvibhāgarucinā yad ad bhutaṃ ||

udgate dinakare yathā kimi
niṣprabho bhavati no ca bhrājati |
udgate jinadivākare tathā
niṣprabhā paragaṇī asaṃyatā ||

ṛddhi­pāda­bala­pāramiṃ gato
īśvaro jinabalena cakṣumāṃ |
locanaṃ bhagavatasya paśyatha
nirvṛto kanakabimbasannibho ||

dhig bhavāṃ sarada-abhrasannibhā
vālikānagararūpasannibhā |
yatra nāma kuśalāna saṃcayo
nirvṛto paramabuddhisāgaro ||

hetukāraṇaśatehi nāyako
nardate puruṣasiṃhanarditaṃ |
bhavam ananyamaraṇaṃ nirīkṣya
tasya uktam antaraṃ na vidyate ||

divyapuṣpava­ramaṇ­ḍitaṃ nabhaṃ
śobhate sugatavarṇabhāṣaṇe |
divya­canda­narasānuvāsitaṃ
śobhate amṛtagandhikaṃ nabham iti ||

atha khalv āyuṣmān mahāmaudgalyāyano āyuṣmantaṃ mahākāśyapam āmantrayati || vyavasthāpaya jinaputra vaśibhūtā ye pariṣāyāṃ saṃśayagatāni mānasāni vijāneyur iti ||

athāniruddhaṃ upāliṃ ca sthaviraṃ ca alakuṇḍalabhaṭṭiyaṃ sundaranandaṃ ca kāśyapa uvāca ||

avaloketha jinātmajāś cittāni yā pariṣāyāṃ |
saṃśayaṃ ca paripṛcchatha yasya yatra tathā bhaved iti ||

sādhū ti te pratiśrutvā jinaśāstraviśāradāḥ |
paśyanti paracittāni kare vāmalakaṃ yathā ||

pralambabāhuṃ vaśibhūtaṃ kāśyapo idam abravīt* |
gṛdhrakūṭasya śikhare nirmiṇe vasudhāṃ laghuṃ ||

aṣṭādaśa sahasrāṇi pariṣāyāṃ samāgatā |
yathā sarvābhijāneyā ṛddhiṃ saṃjanayā tathā ||

vicintacūtaṃ vaśibhūtaṃ kāśyapa idam abravīt* |
gaṃgodakamayā meghā nirmiṇe gagane laghuṃ ||

vividha­gandhapuṣpāś ca upavāyantu sarvataḥ |
mānuṣāṇām āmagandhā ca śīghram antarahāpaya ||

haryakṣaṃ nāma vaśibhūtaṃ kāśyapa idam abravīt* |
tathā utpādaya śīghraṃ samādhiṃ sugatātmaja |
yathā gṛhīṇāṃ dravyāṇi na gaccheyuḥ parāṃ gatiṃ ||

varuṇaṃ nāma vaśibhūtaṃ kāśyapo idam abravīt* |
aratidaṃśamaśakā manuṣyāṇāṃ nivartaye ||

ajakarṇaṃ vaśibhūtaṃ kāsyapo idam abravīt* |
kṣudhāṃ pipāsāṃ vyādhiṃ ca manuṣyāṇāṃ nivartaya ||

sādhū ti te pratiśrutvā kāśyapasya jinātmajāḥ |
yathājñaptāni sthānāni yathoktaṃ parijāgriṣu ||

tataḥ kāśyapasthaviraḥ kātyāyanam uvāca sa |
samudīraya mahātmanāṃ caritaṃ dharmarājināṃ ||

evam ukte mahāprājño kātyāyanakulodgataḥ |
uvāca caryā buddhānāṃ kāśyapasya anupṛcchataḥ ||

śruyatāṃ bho jinasutā buddhānāṃ sarvadarśināṃ |
caryā caraṇaśuddhānāṃ yathāvat anupūrvaśaḥ ||

daśa khalu bho jinaputrā bodhisatvāna bhūmayo |
+ + + + + + + + + bhavanti katamā daśa ||

durāroheti prathamā bhūmī samupadiśyate |
dvitīyā baddhamānā nāma tṛtīyā puṣpamaṇḍitā ||

caturthī rucirā nāma paṃcamī cittavistarā |
ṣaṣṭī rūpavatī nāma saptamī durjayā smṛtā ||

aṣṭamā janmanideśo navamī yauvarājyato |
daśamī tv abhiṣekāto iti etā daśa bhūmayaḥ ||

evam ukte tu gāthābhiḥ kāśyapo ’bravi paṇḍitaḥ |
kātyāyanam ato ’tyarthaṃ vākyam apratimaṃ idaṃ ||

bhūmīnāṃ pariṇāmāni yathāvat anukīrtaya |
yathā ca te vivartante saṃsaranto mahāyaśā ||

yathā cāpi saṃvartante sattvasārāḥ tathā vade |
yathaivādhyāśayā teṣāṃ bhavanti tāṃ udāhare ||

yathā ca parikalpenti satvā satvasamanvitā |
yathā ca denti dānāni tat sarvam anukīrtaye ||

tathā ca dṛṣṭvā saṃbuddhā bhāṣanto ca manojanaṃ |
saṃjñotpādaṃ tathā brūhi kāśyapo idam abravīt* ||

idaṃ te vacanaṃ śrutvā vaśibhūtā upasthitā |
gauraveṇa mahāsatvā saṃbuddhānāṃ mahātmanāṃ ||

evam ukte kātyāyano kāśyapam uvāca || na khalu bho jinaputra śakyaṃ bodhisatvānāṃ bhūmīḥ pramātuṃ ettakakalpā vā anantā bhavanti | sarvaṃ saṃsāro bodhisatvānāṃ khaṇḍasaṃjñayā bhūmir iti parikalpitaṃ tena bhūmir iti smṛtā || evam ukte āyuṣmān ānanda āyuṣmantaṃ kātyāyanam uvāca || yadi bho jinaputra ekā bhūmi aprameyā katham idānīṃ pariśeṣāṇāṃ bhūmīnāṃ grahaṇaṃ bhaviṣyati iti || evam ukte āyuṣmān kātyāyano āyuṣmantam ānandaṃ gāthābhir adhyabhāṣe ||

kalpo yathā aparimitaḥ prakāśitaḥ
prajānatā avitathavādinā svayaṃ |
kalpeṣu ca bhavati bahūsu deśanā
idaṃ nu bho puruṣavarasya śāsanaṃ ||

bhūmis tathā aparimitā prajānatā
prakāśitā svayam anivṛttabuddhinā |
pravartate tatha pariśeṣabhūmiṣu
sāmānyasaṃketānāṃ nirūpaṇaṃ ||
