Varsavastu

buddho bhagavāṃ śrāvastyāṃ varṣā upagato jetavane ’nāthapiṇḍadasyārāme.

bhagavān āha. tasmād anujānāmi bhikṣuṇā varṣā upagantavyaṃ.

uktaṃ bhagavatā bhikṣuṇā varṣā upagantavyam iti. bhikṣavo na jānate kathaṃ varṣā upagantavyam iti.

tataḥ paścāt śayanāsanagrāhako bhikṣuḥ saṃmantavyaḥ.

pañcabhir dharmaiḥ samanvāgataḥ śayanāsanagrāhako bhikṣur asaṃmato na saṃmantavyaḥ, saṃmataś cāvakāśayitavyaḥ. katamaiḥ pañcabhiḥ. chandād gacchati, dveṣān mohād bhayād gacchati, grāhitāgrāhitaṃ ca śayanāsanaṃ na jānāti. ebhiḥ pañcabhir dharmaiḥ samanvāgataḥ śayanāsanagrāhako bhikṣur asaṃmato na saṃmantavyaḥ, saṃmataś cāvakāśayitavyaḥ.

pañcabhir dharmaiḥ samanvāgataḥ śayanāsanagrāhako bhikṣur asaṃmataḥ saṃmantavyaḥ. saṃmataś ca nāvakāśayitavyaḥ. katamaiḥ pañcabhiḥ. na chandād gacchati, na dveṣān na mohān na bhayād gacchati, grāhitāgrāhitaṃ ca śayanāsanaṃ jānāti. ebhiḥ pañcabhir dharmaiḥ samanvāgataḥ śayanāsanagrāhako bhikṣur asaṃmataḥ saṃmantavyaḥ, saṃmataś ca nāvakāśayitavyaḥ.

evaṃ ca punaḥ saṃmantavyaḥ. śayanāsanaprajñaptiṃ kṛtvā gaṇḍīm ākoṭya pṛṣṭavācikayā bhikṣūn samanuyujya sarvasaṃghe saṃniṣaṇṇe saṃnipatite pūrvaṃ tāvad utsāhayitavyaḥ.

utsahase tvam evaṃnāmā saṃghasya vārṣikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ grāhayitum iti.

tena vaktavyam. utsahe iti.

tataḥ paścād ekena bhikṣuṇā jñaptiṃ kṛtvā karma kartavyaṃ.

śṛṇotu bhadantāḥ saṃghaḥ. ayam evaṃnāmā śayanāsanagrāhako bhikṣuḥ utsahate saṃghasya vārśikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ grāhayituṃ.

sacet saṃghasya prāptakālaṃ kṣametānujānīyāt saṃgho yat saṃgha evaṃnāmānaṃ śayanāsanagrāhako saṃmanyeta. evaṃnāmā śayanāsanagrāhako bhikṣuḥ saṃghasya vārṣikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ grāhayiṣyati. eṣā jñaptiḥ.

evaṃ ca karma kartavyaṃ.

śṛṇotu bhadantāḥ saṃghaḥ. evaṃnāmā śayanāsanagrāhako bhikṣur utsahate saṃghasya vārṣikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ grāhayituṃ. tat saṃgha evaṃnāmānaṃ śayanāsanagrāhakaṃ bhikṣuṃ saṃmanyeta. ayam evaṃnāmā śayanāsanagrāhako bhikṣuḥ saṃghasya vārṣikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ grāhayiṣyati.

yeṣām āyuṣmatāṃ kṣamate evaṃnāmānaṃ śayanāsanagrāhakaṃ bhikṣuṃ saṃmantuṃ, te tūṣṇīṃ. na kṣamate bhāṣantāṃ.

saṃmataḥ saṃghena evaṃnāmā śayanāsanagrāhako bhikṣuḥ. saṃghasya vārṣikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ grāhayiṣyati. kṣāntam anujñātaṃ saṃghena, yasmāt tūṣṇīm, evam etad dhārayāmi.

śayanāsanagrāhakasyāhaṃ bhikṣor āsamudācārikān dharmān prajña­payiṣyāmi.

tataḥ paścāt kriyākāra ārocayitavyaḥ. śṛṇotu bhadantāḥ saṃghaḥ. asminn āvase ayaṃ cāyaṃ kriyākāraḥ. yo yuṣmākam utsahate anena cānena ca kriyākāreṇa varṣā upagantuṃ sa śalākāṃ gṛhṇātu. na ca vaḥ kenacid bhikṣuṇā varṣe + + + + + + + + + + + + + + yo vaḥ kasyacit kiṃcij jānīte sa idānīṃ vadatu. mā paścād antavarṣe raṇam utpādayiṣyati. yo vo antavarṣe raṇam utpādayiṣyati tasya saṃgha uttare upaparīkṣitavyaṃ maṃsyate.

tataḥ paścāt śayanāsanagrāhakeṇa bhikṣuṇā śalākāś cārayitavyāḥ. + + + śāstuḥ śalakā grāhayitavyāḥ. tataḥ paścāt saṃghasthavireṇārdham āsana muktvā śalākā gṛhya śanaiḥ sthāpayitavyāḥ. evaṃ yāvat saṃghanavakena. śrāmaṇerāṇām ācāryopapādhyāyaiḥ śalākā grāhayitavyāḥ. tataḥ paścād gaṇayitavya. asminn āvāse iyadbhir bhikṣubhiḥ śalākā gṛhīteti.

tataḥ paścāt śayanāsanagrāhakena bhikṣuṇā tāḍakaṃ kuṃcikāṃ ca gṛhītvā saṃghasthavirasya purataḥ sthitvā vaktavyaṃ. sthavira amuko vihāra salābhaḥ sacīvarikaḥ. gṛhāṇa. saced gṛhṇāti yat saṃghasthavirasya vihāraḥ sa dvitīyasthavirāya dātavyaḥ. + + + + + + + + + + + + +

sacet saṃghasthaviro na gṛhṇāti dvitīyasthavirāya dātavyaḥ. dvitīyasthaviro na gṛhṇāti tṛtīyasthavirāya dātavyaḥ. sacet tṛtīyasthavireṇa gṛhīto bhavati saṃghasthaviro yācate, prathamāyāṃ vāci na dātavyaḥ. dvitīyāyāṃ vāci na dātavyaḥ. tṛtīyāyāṃ dātavyaḥ. saṃghasthaviraś ca vinayātisāriṇī duṣkṛtām āpattiṃ deśāpayitavyaḥ. evaṃ yāvat saṃghanavakena gṛhīta, sacet saṃghatṛtīyanavako yācate, prathamāyāṃ vāci na dātavyaḥ. dvitīyāyāṃ na dātavyaḥ. trtīyāyāṃ dātavyaḥ. saṃghatṛtīyanavakaś ca vinayātisāriṇīṃ duṣkṛtām āpattiṃ deśayitavyaḥ.

bhikṣavaḥ sarvān vihārān uddiśanti. āgantukā bhikṣavaḥ vihanyante. bhagavān āha. āgantukānāṃ bhikṣūṇām sārthāya anuddiṣṭaṃ vastuṃ dhārayitavyaṃ.

bhikṣavaḥ dvārakoṣṭhake apy uddiśanti | bhagavān āha. dvārakoṣṭhake noddeṣṭavyam.

bhikṣavaḥ prāsāde vastum uddiśanti. bhagavān āha | prāsāde noddeṣṭavyam iti.

nirāvāseṣu prāsādeṣu kākacaṭakapārāvatāḥ vāsaṃ kurvanti. bhagavān āha || peḍavāriko bhikṣur uddeṣṭavyaḥ. tena pratyavekṣitavyaḥ. saced aṇḍāny amuktāni bhavanti, śātayitavyaḥ. āhosvin muktāni, sthāpayitavyaḥ. tryaṃbukatrailāṭāḥ vāsaṃ kurvanti. bhagavān āha | pratyavekṣitavyaṃ. aṇḍāny amuktāni bhavanti | śātayitavyaḥ. ahosvin muktāni, sūtrakaṃ bandhitavyaṃ vṛddhiṃ na gamiṣyantīti |

tataḥ paścāc chayanāsanaṃ dātavyaṃ | yadi tāvad alpāni vastūni bhavanti, ekaikaṃ dātavyaṃ. āhosvin bahūni bhavanti, dvayaṃdvayaṃ trayaṃtrayaṃ vā dātavyam |

aparāṇi mahānti vastūni bhavanti | vṛddhavṛddhā bhikṣavaḥ klāmyante parikarmaṇā: bhagavān āha | tāni niśṛtānāṃ dātavyāni.

tataḥ paścāc chayanāsanagrāhakena bhikṣuṇā kriyākāra ārocayitavya. na kenacid bhikṣuṇā sāṃ­ghikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ vinā pratyāstaraṇena paribhoktavyaṃ na kalpapratyāstaraṇena na plotikena ghanena vā ekapuṭena pailoṭikena vā dvipuṭena. yāvat sāṃghikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ aparibhogena paribhuṃjīta, tasya saṃgha uttare upaparīkṣitavyaṃ maṃsyate.

śayanāsanagrāhakeṇa bhikṣuṇā anvardhamāsaśayanāsanaṃ pratyavekṣitavyaṃ yadi tāvad vṛddhaṃ paśyaty aparibhogena śayanāsanaṃ paribhuṃjānaṃ, saṃghena ārocayitvā ākṣeptavyaṃ. āhosvin navakam ācāryopādhyāyānām ārocayitvā ākṣeptavyaṃ.

tataḥ paścāt sāmagryām ārocayitavyaṃ. amukena gocaragrāmeṇa śvaḥ sagho varṣā upagamiṣyatīti.

tataḥ paścād bhikṣubhir āvāsaṃ gocaraṃ cāvalokayitvā channe praviśya varṣā upagantavyaṃ.

katham āvāso ’valokayitavyaḥ. kiṃ nu bhaviṣyanti me ’smin sthāne vijñā sabrahmacāriṇo ye ’nutpannaṃ duḥkhaṃ daurmanasyaṃ notpādayiṣyanti utpannaṃ ca kṣipram eva prativinodayiṣyanti, ye cānutpannaṃ sukhaṃ saumanasyam utpādayiṣyanti utpannaṃ ca sādhu ca suṣṭhu cānurakṣitavyaṃ maṃ­syante | glānasya vā glānopasthāyakaḥ, evam āvāso ’valokayitavyaḥ.

kathaṃ gocaro ’valokayitavyaḥ. kiṃ nu bhaviṣyanti me ’smiṃ grāmopavicāragrāme piṇḍakasya dātāro glānasya vā + + + bhaiṣajyasya ca dātāra iti, evaṃ gocaro ’valokayitavyaḥ.

tataḥ paścāc channe praviśya bhikṣor yathāvṛddhikayā sāmīcīṃ kṛtvā utkuṭukena sthitvā aṃjaliṃ pragṛhya idaṃ syād vacanīyaṃ.

samanvāhara āyuṣmaṃ. adya saṃghasya varṣopanyakāṣāḍhī + + + + + + + + + + so ’ham evaṃnāmā asminn āvāse antaḥsīme pūrvikāṃ traimāsīṃ varṣā upagacchāmi amukena vaiyyāpṛtyakareṇa amukena gocaragrāmeṇa yāvad evāsyāvāsasya khaṇḍaphuṭtaprati­saṃs­karaṇārthaṃ­. iha me varṣā iha me varṣāvāsaḥ. evaṃ dvir api, evaṃ trir api.

bhikṣavaḥ varṣā upagantavyā: na ca punar varṣoṣitena bhikṣuṇā bahiḥsīmā gantavyaṃ || saced gacchati na tatra vastavyaṃ.

uktaṃ bhagavatā na bhikṣuṇā varṣoṣitena bahisīmā gantavyam. saced gacchati na tatra vastavyam iti |

hasti­bālag­rāmake udayano nāma gṛhapati prativasati. tasya gṛhakaḍatraṃ pratyupasthitam ātmano veṣṭanaṃ. tena tatra prabhūto vastralābhaḥ āmiṣalābhaś ca samudānītaḥ. tena bhikṣūṇāṃ dūto ’nupreṣitaḥ. āgacchantv āryāḥ paribhokṣyante iti.

bhikṣavaḥ pṛcchitum ārabdhāḥ. kiyad dūre hastibālagrāmakaḥ. sātirekais tribhir yojanai śakṣyāmo vayam adyaiva gatvā āgantuṃ na śakṣyāmaḥ. te saṃlakṣayanti | uktaṃ bhagavatā na bhikṣuṇā varṣopagatena bahiḥsīmāṃ gantavyaṃ. saced gacchati na tatra vastavyam iti. te na gatāḥ.

tatra ye bhikṣavaḥ hastibālagrāmakasyopavicāre varṣopagatās teṣāṃ prabhūto vastralābha āmiṣalābhaś cānupradattaḥ.

te trayāṇāṃ vārṣikāṇāṃ māsānām atyayāt kṛtacīvarā niṣṭhitacīvarāḥ samādāya pātracīvaraṃ yena śrāvastī tena cārikāṃ prakrāntāḥ. anupūrveṇa cārikāṃ carantaḥ śrāvastīm anuprāptāḥ. te bhikṣubhir dūrata eva dṛṣṭvābhihitā. s­vāgataṃs­vāgatam āyuṣmantaḥ. viśrāmitāḥ uktā. kuto yūyam āyuṣmantaḥ etarhy āgacchata, kutra vā stha varṣā upagatā. hastibālagrāmakād vayam āyuṣmanta etarhy āgacchāma: hastibālagrāmake vā sma varṣā upagatāḥ. kaccid yūyam āyuṣmantaḥ hastibālagrāmake sukhaṃ sparśaṃ varṣā uṣitāḥ, na vā stha klāntāḥ piṇḍakena. tathyaṃ vayam āyuṣmantaḥ hastibālagrāmake sukhaṃ sparśaṃ varṣā upagatā, na vā sma klāntāḥ piṇḍakena.

yathākatham āyuṣmanta hastibālagrāmake sukhaṃ sparśaṃ varṣā upagatāḥ, na vā stha klāntāḥ piṇḍakena. tatra hastibālagrāmake udayano nāma gṛhapati prativasati. tasya gṛhakaḍatra pratyupasthitaṃ ātmano veṣṭanaṃ. tenāsmākaṃ prabhūto vastralābhaḥ āmiṣalābhaś cānupradatta. evaṃ vayam āyuṣmanto hastibālagrāmake sukhaṃ sparśaṃ varṣā uṣitāḥ. na vā sma klāntāḥ piṇḍakena.

te kathayanty. āyuṣmanto ’smākam api tena gṛhapatinā dūto ’nupreṣita. āgacchantv āryā paribhokṣyanta iti. tair asmābhiḥ pṛṣṭaḥ. kiyad dūre hastibālagrāmakaḥ. sātirekais tribhir yojanaiḥ. teṣām asmākaṃ buddhir utpannāḥ. uktaṃ bhagavatā na bhikṣuṇā varṣopagatena bahiḥsīmāṃ gantavyaṃ. saced gacchati na tatra vastavyam iti. vayaṃ na gatāḥ. etat prakaraṇaṃ bhikṣavo bhagavata ārocayanti.

bhagavān saṃlakṣayaty. ākāṃkṣanti bata me śrāvakāḥ vastralābham āmiṣalābhañ ca. yanv ahaṃ bhikṣūṇāṃ sukhasparśavihārārthaṃ datṝṇāṃ ca deyadharmaparibhogārthaṃ saptāham anujānīyāṃ. tasmād anujānāmi saptāham adhiṣṭhāya gantavyaṃ karaṇīyena.

uktaṃ bhagavatā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya gantavyaṃ karaṇīyeneti. bhikṣavo na jānate kasya karaṇīyaṃ. etat prakaraṇaṃ bhikṣavo bhagavata ārocayanti.

bhagavān āha | upāsakasya karaṇīyena upāsikāyāḥ karaṇīyena bhikṣoḥ karaṇīyena bhikṣuṇyāḥ śikṣamāṇāyā śrāmaṇerakasya śrāmaṇerikāyāḥ karaṇīyena.

kim upāsakasya karaṇīya. yathāpi tad upāsakasya gṛhakaḍatraṃ pratyupasthitaṃ bhavaty ātmano veṣṭanaṃ. tena tatra prabhūto vastralābha āmiṣalābhaś ca samudānītaḥ. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayati. āgacchantv āryāḥ paribhokṣyante. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya upāsakasya karaṇīyena. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam apy upāsakasya karaṇīya. yathāpi tad upāsakaś cāturdiśe bhikṣusaṃghe vihāraṃ pratiṣṭhāpayitukāmo bhavati. tena tatra prabhūto vastralābhaḥ āmiṣalābhaś ca samudānītaḥ. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayaty. āgacchantv āryāḥ paribhokṣyante. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya upāsakasya karaṇīyena. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam apy upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ yathāpi tad upāsakas tasminn eva vihāre śayanāsanam anupradātukāmo bhavati. tena tatra prabhūto vastralābhaḥ āmiṣalābhaś ca samudānīto bhavati. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayati. āgacchantv āryāḥ paribhokṣyante. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya upāsakasya karaṇīyena. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam apy upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tad upāsakas tasminn eva vihāre dhruvabhikṣāṃ prajñapayitukāmo bhavaty anukūlayajñaṃ. tena tatra prabhūto vastralābhaḥ āmiṣalābhaś ca samudānīto bhavati. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayaty. āgacchantv āryāḥ paribhokṣyante. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya upāsakasya karaṇīyena. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam apy upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tad upāsakas tasminn eva vihāre tathāgatasya śarīraṃ stūpaṃ pratiṣṭhāpayitukāmo bhavati | sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayati. āgacchantv āryā dharmasakhāyo bhaviṣyanti. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya upāsakasya karaṇīyena. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam apy upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tad upāsakas tasminn eva stūpe yaṣṭyāropaṇaṃ chatrāropaṇaṃ dhvajāropaṇaṃ patākāropaṇam | alas­ekaṃ candanasekaṃ kuṃkumasekam anupradātukāmo bhavati. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayaty. āgacchantv āryā dharmasakhāya me bhaviṣyanti. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā upāsakasya karaṇīyena saptāham adhiṣṭhāya. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam apy upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tad upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ caturṇāṃ sūtranikāyānāṃ anyatamānyatamaṃ sūtranikāyaṃ vistareṇoddiṣṭaṃ bhavati pravṛttaṃ ca. tena tatra prabhūto vastralābha āmiṣalābhaś ca samudānīto bhavati. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayati. āgacchantv āryāḥ paribhokṣyante. gantavya bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya upāsakasya karaṇīyena. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam apy upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tad upāsakasya kaukṛtyam utpannaṃ bhavati. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayaty. āgacchantv āryāḥ utpannaṃ kaukṛtyaṃ prativinodayiṣyanti. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya upāsakasya karaṇīyena. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam apy upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tad upāsakasya pāpakaṃ dṛṣṭigatam utpannaṃ bhavati. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayaty. āgacchantv āryā utpannaṃ pāpakaṃ dṛṣṭigataṃ pratiniḥsṛjāpayiṣyanti. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya upāsakasya karaṇīyena. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam apy upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tat saṃgha upāsakasya saṃghena pātraṃ nikubjayitukāmo bhavati | sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayati | āgacchantv āryā dharmeṇa pakṣaṃ bhajiṣyanti. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya upāsakasya karaṇīyena. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam apy upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tad upāsakasya saṃghena pātraṃ nikubjitaṃ bhavati. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayati. āgacchantv āryāḥ pāttraṃ nikubjam unmajjāpayiṣyatha : gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya upāsakasya karaṇīyena. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam apy upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tad upāsakasya ābādhiko duḥkhito bāḍhaglānaḥ. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayati. āgacchantv āryā vācaṃ dāsyanti. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya upāsakasya karaṇīyena. idam upāsakasya karaṇīyaṃ.

kim upāsikāyāḥ karaṇīyaṃ sthāpayitvā gṛhakaḍatram ātmano veṣṭanaṃ.

kiṃ bhikṣoḥ karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tad bhikṣuḥ cāturdiśe bhikṣusaṃghe ārāmaṃ niryātayitukāmo bhavati. tena tatra prabhūto vastralābhaḥ āmiṣalābhaś ca samudānīto bhavati. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayaty. āgacchantv āyuṣmantaḥ paribhokṣyante | gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya bhikṣoḥ karaṇīyena. idaṃ bhikṣoḥ karaṇīyaṃ.

aparam api bhikṣoḥ karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tad bhikṣus tasminn evārāme vihāraṃ śayanāsanaṃ dhruvabhikṣāṃ tathāgatasya śarīraṃ stūpaṃ. alas­ekaṃ canda­nas­ekaṃ yaṣṭyāropaṇaṃ dhvajāropaṇaṃ sūtranikāyānām anyatamānyatamaṃ sūtranikāyaṃ kaukṛtyaṃ pāpakaṃ dṛṣṭigatam utpannaṃ bhavati. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayati. āgacchantv āyuṣmantaḥ utpannaṃ pāpakaṃ dṛṣṭigataṃ pratiniḥsṛjāpayiṣyanti. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya bhikṣoḥ karaṇīyena. idaṃ bhikṣoḥ karaṇīyaṃ. pūrvavat sarvaṃ vistareṇa vācyaṃ ||

aparam api bhikṣoḥ karaṇīyaṃ. yathāpi tat saṃghaḥ bhikṣor imāny evaṃrūpāṇi praṇidhikarmāṇi kartukāmo bhavati. tadyathā tarjanīyaṃ karma nigarhaṇīyaṃ pravāsanīyaṃ pratisaṃharaṇīyam adarśanāyotkṣepaṇīyam aprati­karma­ṇāyot­kṣepaṇīyaṃ apratinisṛṣṭe pāpake dṛṣṭigate utkṣepaṇīyaṃ karma. sa bhikṣūṇāṃ dūtam anupreṣayati. āgacchantv āyuṣmanto dharmeṇa pakṣaṃ bhajiṣyanti. gantavyaṃ bhikṣuṇā saptāham adhiṣṭhāya bhikṣoḥ karaṇīyena. idaṃ bhikṣoḥ karaṇīyaṃ.

yathāpi tad anyatamena mahallena bālena mūḍhenāvyaktenākuśalena gocare vā gocaramārge vā kulastrī vā kulakumārī vā ākruṣṭā vā bhavaty ābhāṣṭā vā parāmṛṣṭā vā. manuṣyāḥ prakupitā ārāmadvāram āgatya yathā gṛhītikām udghoṣayanti. pūrvavad yāvat sa tasmād āvāsāt prakrāmaty. etad eva pratyayaṃ kṛtvā anāpattir varṣācchede ||

yathāpi tad bhikṣur yaṃ strīpuruṣapaṇḍakam upaniśṛtya varṣā upagato bhavati, sa manuṣyair gṛhīto bhavati baddho vā ghātito vā, santasvāpateyaṃ vāsyāpahṛtaṃ, manuṣyabhayena vā pararāṣṭraṃ paraviṣayaṃ niṣpalānaḥ, ucchidya vā kālagataḥ. tatra varṣoṣitasya bhikṣor evaṃ bhavati. aham asminn āvāse yaṃ strīpuruṣapaṇḍakam upaniśṛtya varṣā upagataḥ, sa manuyair ghīto baddho vā ghātito vā santasvāpateyaṃ vāsyāpahṛtaṃ, manuṣyabhayena vā pararāṣṭraṃ paraviṣayaṃ niṣpalānaḥ, ucchidya vā kālagataḥ. ahaṃ ced asminn āvāse varṣā vaseyaṃ syān me atonidānajīvintarāyaḥ śrāmaṇyāntarāyaḥ brahmacaryāntarāyaḥ. yanv aham asmād āvāsāt prakrameyaṃ. sa tasmād āvāsāt prakrāmaty. etad eva pratyayaṃ kṛtvā anāpattir varṣācchede ||

yathāpi tad vihāraḥ amanuṣyādhyuṣite pradeśe pratiṣṭhāpito bhavati. anyatamena ca mahallena bālena mūḍhenāvyaktenākuśalenāpratirūpe pradeśe uccāraprasrāvaṃ pūrvavad yāvat sa tasmād āvāsāt prakrāmaty. etad eva pratyayaṃ kṛtvā anāpattir varṣācchede ||

yathāpi tad vihāro vyāḍādhyuṣite pradeśe pratiṣṭhāpito bhavati. anyatamena ca mahallena bālena mūḍhenāvyaktenākuśalena apratirūpe pradeśe uccāraprasrāvaṃ kheṭaṃ śiṅghāṇakaṃ vāntaṃ viriktaṃ choritam, aśucimrakṣitaṃ vā śayanāsanaṃ pravikṣiptaṃ. vyāḍāḥ prakupitāḥ gocare ’pi tiṣṭhanti gocaramārge ’pi caṃkrame ’pi meḍhyām api dvārakoṣṭhake ’pi, bhikṣūn apyāviśanti. tatra varṣopagatasya bhikṣor evaṃ bhavati. pūrvavad yāvat sa tasmād āvāsāt prakrāmaty. etad eva pratyayaṃ kṛtvā anāpattir varṣācchede ||

yathāpi tad bhikṣuḥ pratiśṛṇoty. amuṣminn āvāse pūrvikāṃ traimāsīṃ vatsye tayor āvāsayor ekalābhau hirukpoṣadho. tasyaivaṃ bhavati ihāpi me vasataḥ sa eva, tatrāpi me vasataḥ sa eva. sa pratiśrutya na gacchati. tasya tasminn āvāse pūrvikāṃ traimāsīṃ na prajñāyate, pratiśraveṇa ca duṣkṛtā.
